I still have 2 plus years of schooling to complete, but how is the job market in London for part time work while I complete school? How do UK employers view Americans? Would a citizen of the UK get a job before me? I have never been to Europe, so any advice would be much appreciated.

journalism in the UK is VERY competitive my daughter is a journo student here in Scotland, and sounds like she is in the same year as you strangely enough her work experience time next year will be spent in the USA and not London so perhaps that tells you how the situation is They wont employ a UK citizen over you if you are better qualified, in the UK, the best person gets the job, no matter what their origin perhaps contact the uni's here asking about internships, as exchanges are common place ask at your own, they usually arrange it you will find living in London VERY expensive however, not only compared to the USA, but to the rest of the UK lots of homework for you befor you make the move the UK media industry is awesome however, and you would enjoy it very much dont let anything i have said put you off, but you do need a realistic picture of how it is if you need or want any info, give me a shout i'm know my daughter will help if she can

Have an angle. What can you bring to the table as a journalist that someone living in the UK can't? What's your unique selling point? Think about these things, then look online and send some emails to editors of UK publications - starting with local newspapers and working up to the broadsheets. Have ready some copy that you've already written tailored to the particular "house style" of the publication you are writing for. Perhaps begin on a freelance basis from the States, sending off query letters and ideas for articles to UK magazines - that way you'll have an "in" with the publication before asking for an internship. If you want it enough then you WILL succeed, but it is fiercely competitive - I tried to be a freelance journalist for two years back in 2006 and couldn't - but I am a bit old and talentless! ;) Best of luck.

What is an internship? This is not a word that is used in the UK.
