You shouldn't have any problem as soon as you learn the language.... Thus, when we speak of "New York English" as a variety of English, we are referring to a composite of the various forms spoken there. I don't know about NYPD, but most places that I have seen in the U.S. require citizenship for hiring. This is a quote from my last Department regarding being hired: CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship. I would expect this is fairly common across the U.S. (though I am sure there are exceptions to this somewhere) Good luck to you.
