I was wondering the same thing! I live in London and it's been proper snowing. I don't know really, it's mainly how many teachers turn up tomorrow I suppose.
2 :
Very snowy. My school refuses to close, ever!

To be honest it's not a big thing over here. If you want to take GCSEs there are some companies that do them online, but on the whole the parents who want their children to follow a school at home model either teach them themselves or hire in tutors. If you have a specific reason for not going to school, e.g. medical problems, bullying, you really hate it ;-) your school/LA might be able to sign you up with NotSchool http://www.notschool.net/
3 :
The British online schools are, in no particular order, Inter High @ http://www.interhigh.net First College @ http://www.firstcollege.co.uk The British e-school @ http://www.briteschool.co.uk North Star @ http://www.northstaruk.org . All go as far as year 11, Inter High and North Star both go right through to A Levels and the British e-school is planning to start Pre-Us (Upper 6th exams similar to A Levels). They're all private schools, think school fees of around £2,000 a year. North Star is a Christian school. If your mum baulks at the idea of paying school fees you might try pointing out that she'd no longer have to buy your school uniforms or pay for your lunches or bus fare so online school may not cost her that much more than the money she's already paying out on the hidden costs of sending you to a state school! The only online school that doesn't charge school fees is 'Not School' (it's run by the Inclusion Trust and your fees would be paid for you by your local authority) but as Firebird pointed out the school is only open to kids who, for one reason or another, are no longer able to go to a 'normal' school .

As I know, this site has top listing of such college courses online - schools.iblogger.org

You would be a sophomore in high school.
2 :
Depending somewhat on the month the child was born in most children start first grade at age 5 or 6. They go to kindergarten the year before 1st grade. Hope that helps. By the way, welcome and we hope you like it here.
3 :
Sophomore = 10 (Just starting High School) Junior = 11 Senior = 12 Some High Schools have 9 thru 12th yr. 9 would be a (starting) Freshman. At least that's how it was in N.Y., where I grew up.
4 :
You would be in the 10th Grade which is a sophomore.Welcome to the United states we hope you enjoy your stay.
5 :
Oh wow! I'd love to live in America!! Anyways, I think you'd be Grade 9? I don't know! Anyways, have fun in America, it's such a fun-looking place. =]
6 :
that most likely if uk is like us it would be grade 9
7 :
10th Grade.. =] Have a good time @ you new school =]]
8 :
I'm a 10th grader in America and since you were born in July 1993, you would most definitely be a freshman (9th grade). Everyone in my grade was either born in 1991 or 1992. Have fun here!
9 :
Since you were born in 1993, you'd be a freshman.
10 :
It depends what class if you have taken in the U.k. if most of them match up as a freshmen you probably a freshmen (9th) but lets says most of the class you have taken our like 10th grader class you probably will be in the 10th grade I am sure thou your parents will have some say (you may have to take some test or something depending on school district)

I am an American journalism student and would love to go to the UK for internship. First moves?
I still have 2 plus years of schooling to complete, but how is the job market in London for part time work while I complete school? How do UK employers view Americans? Would a citizen of the UK get a job before me? I have never been to Europe, so any advice would be much appreciated.

journalism in the UK is VERY competitive my daughter is a journo student here in Scotland, and sounds like she is in the same year as you strangely enough her work experience time next year will be spent in the USA and not London so perhaps that tells you how the situation is They wont employ a UK citizen over you if you are better qualified, in the UK, the best person gets the job, no matter what their origin perhaps contact the uni's here asking about internships, as exchanges are common place ask at your own, they usually arrange it you will find living in London VERY expensive however, not only compared to the USA, but to the rest of the UK lots of homework for you befor you make the move the UK media industry is awesome however, and you would enjoy it very much dont let anything i have said put you off, but you do need a realistic picture of how it is if you need or want any info, give me a shout i'm know my daughter will help if she can
2 :
Have an angle. What can you bring to the table as a journalist that someone living in the UK can't? What's your unique selling point? Think about these things, then look online and send some emails to editors of UK publications - starting with local newspapers and working up to the broadsheets. Have ready some copy that you've already written tailored to the particular "house style" of the publication you are writing for. Perhaps begin on a freelance basis from the States, sending off query letters and ideas for articles to UK magazines - that way you'll have an "in" with the publication before asking for an internship. If you want it enough then you WILL succeed, but it is fiercely competitive - I tried to be a freelance journalist for two years back in 2006 and couldn't - but I am a bit old and talentless! ;) Best of luck.
3 :
scholarships.onlinewebshop.net - I found such internship info here. It has lots of internships, job openings and scolarships for college students.

What is an internship? This is not a word that is used in the UK.

Anyone know a good Drama School in Derbyshire
Anyone know a good Drama School in Derbyshire?
I'm looking for a drama school in Derbyshire, UK. Does anyone know of one that they can recommend? It needs to offer kids classes (for an 8 year old) and preferably be a proper drama school offering possibilities for exams in drama as opposed to just being a drama club. Thanks.

I know of a drama school called Theatre Cats which is just opening new classes in Derbyshire and already has classes in Staffordshire. It encourage confidence and self-esteem through drama, dance and musical theatre. I know it also offers exams in Lamda and Trinity so that children build on their knowledge and skills, they're always working towards a goal, be it exams or performances.
