Transferring children from schools in UK to US
Transferring children from schools in UK to US?
y husband and I are considering moving to America for work reasons. We have two children (age 17 and 14) and we are not sure about the schooling arrangements at this age. I wanted to know for the 17 year old, as the 14 year-olds schooling seems pretty straightforward, what would her best options be? Is it still a legal requirement for her to stay in school? She is a very intelligent, motivated and charismatic young person and is hoping to go to university. The reason we are moving now is because she has just finished compulsory education and would have gone on to an optional sixth form – so now seemed the time for us to move, without interrupting her potential studies. We are not immediately concerned about the 14-year old’s education, as this is not one of her priorities and never has been. Therefore, my question is, when we choose to move, what route do we need to go down for her? How do we we go about enrolling her at a school, which kind of school should we look for and how far through her new school’s term would she be? We are hoping to move in about 3 months, penind the organisation or our home sale.

UK Schools : Time to Abolish the Long Summer Vacation
UK Schools : Time to Abolish the Long Summer Vacation?
Many people have complained about the closure of schools for two days due to the heavy snow. They argue that the closures will harm children's education. If two days of snow cause such harm, how much more harm is being caused by the long vacation in the summer! Is it time to abolish the long vacation? What do you all think?

I think the summer holidays are great, stop complaining.

why in UK the school boards are BLACK & in US are GREEN

Here in the UK we call them 'blackboards'. Strangely they are not all black. Some are green. But they are all called blackboards! Except the boards that are white (for markers) and these are called boards. In the UK we know that the most visible combination is yellow chalk on green boards and that is why in 95% of all classrooms I've been in over 25 years of teaching are black and white chalk is supplied. Life is never simple.
